Losing streaks are normal
Here's a truth nobody tells beginners: even a great betting strategy loses several bets in a row, regularly. This lesson explains why, and why that's not a reason to panic or change your plan.
Why streaks happen
If your strategy wins 55% of the time, that means it loses 45% of the time. Five losses in a row is not a sign the strategy broke — it's what randomness looks like. Flip a fair coin and you'll see runs of heads and tails all the time; bets behave the same way, just with better odds than a coin.
The numbers behind it
With a 55% win rate, a 5-game losing streak will happen often — roughly every few dozen bets. Even a 10-game streak happens sometimes over a season. When you see one, don't conclude your edge is gone. Look at your CLV (lesson 5): if the prices you got were still good, your process is fine and you're just in a normal bad patch.
Surviving the bad patches
This is exactly why the bankroll rules from lesson 4 exist. If each bet risks only 1–2% of your money, a 5- or 10-bet losing streak hurts your bankroll by a small, recoverable amount instead of ending you. Sizing isn't about winning more — it's about staying in the game long enough to collect your edge.
